Celebrating Outstanding IELTS Results for Sedbergh’s International Pupils

Sedbergh School is delighted to announce another year of exceptional achievements in the IELTS examinations by our international pupils. The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department has welcomed new international pupils and continued to support the English language development of our existing pupils.

At Sedbergh, we are privileged to offer our pupils the opportunity to sit their IELTS examinations within the school premises. This year, 17 pupils participated in a rigorous day of reading, writing, listening, and speaking assessments. The results were outstanding, reflecting the dedication and hard work of all our students. Notably, all Year 12 pupils achieved an overall grade of 7.0 or higher, with special commendations to Konstantin F. (Germany), Hannah N. (Germany), and Taras S. (Ukraine), who each achieved an impressive 8.0.

Catherine Bettney, Head of EAL, expressed her pride in the students’ achievements: “It has been a huge year for the pupils, and I am so proud of them. It’s a fantastic set of results which enables them to continue their studies at university or further education. The international pupils at Sedbergh have had a great year, hosting their very own international dinner, taking part in numerous community projects, inter-house competitions, academic societies, and embracing British boarding life. We are passionate about supporting our pupils during their journey with us and I am very much looking forward to welcoming more international pupils to Sedbergh in the new academic year when we celebrate our 500th anniversary.”

The EAL Department remains committed to providing an enriching and supportive environment for all international pupils, ensuring they achieve linguistic proficiency and fully engage in the vibrant school community.
