Chapel Choir’s Catalonia Tour: A Triumphant End to a Remarkable Year
At the beginning of the summer holiday, the Chapel Choir capped off a year in which they had enjoyed unprecedented success, with a concert tour at some stunning venues in Spain. Concert tours have innumberable benefits musically and socially, and this year was certainly no exception!
Based on the beautiful coastline in Catalonia, the choir performed a series of concerts at cathedrals and churches across the region, including the Basilica at Monserrat Monastery, Girona Cathedral and Barcelona Cathedral. They performed a selection of sacred repertoire, including highlights from the 2023/24 academic year but also some new challenges including Benjamin Britten’s ‘Rejoice in the Lamb’.
We enjoyed the support of some incredible audiences, and certainly the largest that we have enjoyed on any tour in the last fifteen years or so. Among the members of the audience was a large number of loyal parents, and it was wonderful to share their company for a meal in Barcelona on the Friday night.
We now look ahead to the next year with great excitement, not just because of the special 500th anniversary events that the choir will play a role in. Auditions to join the choir for the year take place on Monday 2nd September.
