Year 12 Take on the 3 Peaks for Challenge Week
The National 3 Peaks Challenge involves pupils climbing the highest mountains in England (Scafell Pike, 978m), Wales (Snowdon, 1085m) and Scotland (Ben Nevis, 1345m) over 3 days. The challenge involves more than 30 miles walking and is equivalent to ascending Winder 11 times! For the first time, all of Year 12 will take on this challenge which will test them both physically and mentally.
Mr Seddon-Roberts is leading the challenge and he explains that “pupils will need to show their resilience when the going gets tough and kindness to give their friends the support they need when taking on this epic challenge. It is all worthwhile for that feeling of being the highest person in Great Britain atop Ben Nevis!”
The challenges are many – terrain is rough, the weather can be variable and in total the 3 peaks have over 10,000ft (3000m) of ascent. Sedbergh’s challenge week is as much about personal achievement as it is about adventure, health, fitness, team building and overcoming obstacles.
I am most looking forward to something I enjoy doing with my friends who have never done it before. I think the most challenging part for me will be waking up early to go up Ben Nevis, a mountain I have never been up. I think the experience will benefit me as it is something I would not normally do in school time, so will provide a good break from focusing on work.

In challenge week, I most looking forward to conquering something I have never done before, and to have the feeling of accomplishment once I have done it. I think that the most challenging thing for me will probably be the persevering with the heat, however I feel that I am determined to complete this challenge. I have not done a run this tough before, I have only really done runs around the Sedbergh fells, so the 3 peaks will really be a big challenge for me.
Heather (running the Challenge)
I am most looking forward to being able to spend a week with some of my closest friends, seeing as this is our last challenge week. I think the most challenge aspect of 3 peaks for me is going to be the physical endurance aspect of it all. I just need to remember it is mind over matter! It will be a great story to tell in years from now, it will also be a huge opportunity to bond with my year.
