Admissions Information

Thank you for your interest in Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School, below you will find step-by-step information about our admissions process.

We know that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make and in person visits are an integral part of this process. Private tours of Sedbergh Prep are available throughout term time or please sign up to our next Open Mornings, taking place in the week commencing 17th February 2025, by clicking here.

Admission Process

Pupils can start at the Prep School from the term that they turn 3 through to 13. Applications are accepted throughout the year, subject to available places in the applicable year group. Our admissions process is outlined below.

1. Visit Sedbergh Prep

Individual visits to the School can be arranged with Mrs Anna Cooper, BritishRegistrar, at admissions@sedberghschool.org or call +44 (0)15242 79247 or 79200.

Open Mornings are held on a termly basis; our next events will take place from 17th to 21st February 2025. For more information and to register your interest in attending, please click here.

2. Register Your Child/ren

Registration forms are available from the Admissions Team; the registration fee is £200.00 per child (non-refundable). A copy of your child/ren’s most recent School Report is also required.

3. Prep School Taster

Inviting registered child/ren to visit the school for a day or overnight visit form an important part of our admissions process. Children joining in Year 7 or above may be asked to take online tests in English and maths to assist with setting.

4. Acceptance

Offer letter issued and acceptance form returned, along with payment of the appropriate acceptance deposit (refundable).

5. Scholarships

A limited number of Scholarship Awards are available for talented boys and girls entering the Preparatory School, at age 11 i.e. as they transition between Year 6 and 7. These are available in the following categories:

  • Academic
  • Art
  • Computer Science
  • Design, Technology & Engineering
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Sport

Assessment Days

The next assessment for Scholarship Awards will take place in the week commencing 27th January 2025, for a September 2025 entry. If you are interested in your child being assessed for an 11+ Scholarship, please contact our Admissions Team to discuss this further. The assessments are designed as an information gathering process for us as a School. We aim for the children attending to enjoy themselves without experiencing any undue pressure or anxiety.

6. Senior School Transition

Senior School House selection takes place in Year 7 for Sedbergh Prep School pupils and guarantees a Year 9 place – there are currently waiting lists to join at this age.
