Key Stage 2

Across Key Stage 2, the form teacher is a central figure in a pupil’s School life. They build a strong and warm relationship with each pupil in their form, ensuring each child’s emotional wellbeing and self-esteem is nurtured, friendships and social skills are developed and every child feels supported, safe and welcome within the form and wider school community.

In each of the academic years of Key Stage 2, subject teachers complete ongoing assessments of every pupil. Whilst there are no formal examinations, and the children in Year 6 do not take part in SATs, pupils do sit standardised assessments at the beginning and end of each year. In September every pupil undertakes a standardised assessment in reading and spelling and in June, these are completed in reading, maths, English and science. These assessments help our academic team to track pupil progress, identify any gaps in learning and support individuals.

Parents are invited to attend two parent evenings and receive four academic reports over the course of a school year. We operate an open door policy and parents are invited to ask questions at any point, with the child’s form teacher being the first line of communication.

In Key Stage 2, the pupils take a more active role in the games programme and, as they get older, really begin to develop their skills. Games sessions are held on three afternoons a week and fixtures usually take place on Wednesdays afternoons and some Saturdays. All children have the opportunity to represent the School in sport.
