Sedbergh School has an international reputation for its sporting achievements and the School also takes great pride in offering a broad range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, whatever their aptitudes and abilities.

Both boys’ and girls’ sport embrace ‘Excellence’ and ‘Sport for All’ – the two are not mutually exclusive and co-exist comfortably, enabling Sedbergh pupils to benefit from a huge variety of sporting opportunities.

In the last 5 years, Sedbergh has invested over £6million in its sports facilities and under the guidance of international level coaches, pupils thrive and discover new interests.

The Performing Arts are a powerful element of School life and a very large number of pupils are involved in music and drama.

The School sets out to enable as many pupils as possible, of all ages and standards, to experience performing to public audiences. As well as major productions there are numerous smaller events throughout the year. The Performing Arts offer Sedbergh School pupils rich experiences which develop their talents, explore their creativity, and develop lifelong passions and an appreciation of the transforming power of The Arts.

Charity and volunteering are integral to life at Sedbergh and because it helps establish a culture of giving back we mandate that all pupils and staff engage in service.

We believe this fosters a more compassionate and altruistic society, where individuals and institutions prioritise the welfare of others. It also reinforces the idea that everyone has a role to play in shaping a better society.

Our boarding is defined by the strength of our community in the House and School where everyone is committed to collective success. Trust lies at the centre of that community and we expect our pupils to offer unconditional support to their peers.

Boarding Houses are the heart of the School; the term-time home of our pupils and where they forge the closest friendships. The House system creates a smaller, tight-knit, cross-year community within the School where pupils are well supported by staff they know well. The sense of belonging inspires confidence, allows problems to be resolved and develops strong social skills.
