Extra-Curricular for International Pupils

Sedbergh is focused on providing international pupils with an extensive programme that is fun, inspiring and challenging.

A journey of discovery through extra-curricular activities

The most remarkable aspect of a Sedbergh education is its dynamic focus on personal development and active participation. The school excels at uncovering hidden talents and cultivating each pupil’s unique strengths, offering a wide range of educational opportunities that nurture and empower the whole person, including developing confidence and leadership skills.

“We want our pupils not only to excel academically but also to become positive forces in society, contributing meaningfully to the well-being of others.” Mr Dan Harrison, Headmaster

Sport

Sedbergh School has an international reputation for its sporting achievements and the School offers a huge range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, whatever their aptitudes and abilities. Both boys’ and girls’ sport embrace ‘Excellence’ and ‘Sport for All’

Almost all sports are open to both boys and girls, using the School’s own excellent facilities. All pupils participate in an organised sport programme every weekday afternoon except Thursday. This is appropriate to their age, aptitude, and the time of the year.

Music

All pupils are exposed to music, through weekly Music assemblies, one of the 60+ concerts each academic year, or through the exceptionally strong singing that is such a highlight of the Sedbergh experience. Private tuition is available in most instruments and pupils are encouraged to learn and join an orchestra or ensemble appropriate to their level of expertise. All pupils in Year 9 are taught Music in class. Music is then offered at GCSE, AS Level and A Level.

Drama

Performance, design, technical theatre and being a member of an audience are all essential to our performance work at Sedbergh. Pupils are involved at every level of production: Stage Management, Set and Props, Costume Making, Hair and Makeup, Lighting, Sound and for older pupils there are chances to Assistant Direct. A major musical is produced every 2 years in the Michaelmas term and many productions take place in the School’s 100 seat Arden Theatre, Powell Hall or in the nearby town of Kendal to a sell-out audience.

Academic Societies

Taking part in one of the School’s many societies is a great opportunity to explore new interests, extend in-class learning and build new skills. You’ll find a supportive group of like-minded pupils.
